철저히 통제된 중국 언론

 

 

중국의 인권운동가 류샤오보가 사망하자 전세계에서 애도의 물결이 이는데 중국의 포털 사이트에서는 사망 소식조차 전하지 않고 있습니다.

 

중국에서는 신문이나 방송 심지어는 잡지 등 모든 출판물을 발행할 때에 공산당을 비방했다가는 당장 폐간되고 관련자는 처벌을 받습니다.

 

철저히 언론을 통제하는 사회주의 국가에서 인권이니 자유니 운운하는 것은 국가가 가만히 놔 두지 않기 때문에 중국인들은 그저 입을 봉쇄하고 살아가고 있습니다.

 

 

중국 인권운동가이자 노벨평화상 수상자 류샤오보(劉曉波ㆍ61)가 세상을 떠나자 세계 각국에서 애도가 쏟아지고 있습니다.

 

안토니우 구테흐스 유엔 사무총장은 대변인을 통해 발표한 성명에 “깊이 슬퍼하고 있다. 유족과 그의 친구들에게 조의를 표한다”고 밝혔습니다.

 

프랑스 정부 역시 장이브 르드리앙 외무장관 성명을 통해 “류샤오보의 타계 소식에 깊은 슬픔을 느낀다”며 “자유와 인권, 민주주의를 위해 평화적인 투쟁을 해온 이 지성인은 미래 세대의 기억에 오래도록 남을 것”이라고 밝혔습니다.

 

미국 정부도 류샤오보의 죽음에 깊은 애도를 표하면서 그의 부인인 류샤를 가택연금 상태에서 해제하고 출국을 허용하라고 중국 정부에 촉구했습니다.

 

대만 총통 차이잉원(蔡英文)은 별세한 중국 노벨평화상 수상자 류샤오보에 대해 "인권투사로서 최대의 경의를 표한다"고 애도했고, 일본 정부도 류샤오보가 투병하다 숨졌다는 소식에 대해 애도를 표하면서 중국 인권 상황을 주시하겠다고 경고했습니다.

 

우리 나라 한국당에서도 대변인을 통해 애도를 표하지만 중국은 침묵하여 일언반구도 없습니다.

International criticism of the Chinese government is mounting following the death of Nobel Peace Prize-winning human rights campaigner Liu Xiaobo, Thursday.

 

Liu, who had spent more than a decade behind bars in China for his advocacy of political reform, including taking part in the bloody 1989 Tiananmen Square protests, was serving a 11-year prison term for "inciting subversion of state power" when he was diagnosed with late stage liver cancer in May this year.

 

The Chinese government had refused to let him seek treatment overseas despite Liu's wishes and international pressure. His death, of multiple organ failure at the age of 61 late Thursday evening, makes Liu the first Nobel Peace laureate to die in state custody since Carl von Ossietzky in Nazi Germany in 1938.

Berit Reiss-Andersen, the chair of the Norwegian Nobel Committee -- which awards the Nobel Peace Prize -- said the Chinese government "bears a heavy responsibility for his premature death."

In a statement released Thursday, she said Liu Xiaobo was a representative of "ideas that resonate with millions of people all over the world, even in China. These ideas cannot be imprisoned and will never die."
