옛날 이야기(영어 대조)

Once upon a time there was a prince who wanted to marry a princess; but she had to be a real princess. He travelled all over the world to find one, but nowhere could he get what he wanted. There were a lot of princesses, but it was difficult to find out if they were real. There was always something about them that was not as it ought to be. So he came home again and was sad, for he would have liked very much to have a real princess.	Érase una vez un príncipe que quería casarse con una princesa, pero tenía que ser una princesa verdadera. Viajó por todo el mundo buscando una, pero no pudo encontrar en ningún sitio lo que buscaba. Había muchas, pero era difícil saber si eran princesas de verdad. Había siempre algo en ellas que no era como debía ser. Así, volvió a casa de nuevo muy triste porque le hubiera gustado mucho haber encontrado una princesa verdadera.
One night there was a terrible storm with thunder and lightening. The rain was falling torrentially. All of a sudden one could hear somebody knocking the door of the castle very hard. Knock! Knock! Knock!. The old king went to open it.	Una noche había una terrible tormenta con relámpagos y truenos. La lluvía caía torrencialmente. De repente se oyó como alguien golpeaba la puerta del castillo con fuerza. ¡Toc! ¡Toc!¡Toc!. El anciano rey fue a abrirla.
There was a princess outside in front of the door. But, oh my god! what did she look like with the rain and the bad weather. The rain dripped through her hair and her clothes, it ran down to her shoes and out of the heels. In spite of this she said that she was a real princess.	Había una princesa afuera, frente a la puerta. Pero, ¡Dios mio! ¡qué aspecto presentaba con la lluvia y el mal tiempo! El agua le goteaba del pelo y de las ropas, le corría por la punta de los zapatos y le salía por el tacón y, a pesar de esto, decía que era una princesa auténtica.
"Well, we will soon find out", thought the old queen. Without saying anything, she went to the bedroom, she removed all of the bed clothes and she put a pea at the bottom. Then she picked up twenty mattresses and put them on top of the pea and she also put twenty quilts over the mattresses.	“Pues, pronto lo sabremos”, pensó la anciana reina. Y sin decir nada, se fue a la habitacion, quitó toda la ropa de la cama y puso un guisante en el fondo. Después cogió veinte colchones y los puso sobre el guisante, y además colocó veinte edredones sobre los colchones.
The princess had to sleep there all night. The following morning they asked her how she had slept.	La princesa tuvo que dormir allí toda la noche. A la mañana siguiente le preguntaron como había dormido.
"I have slept very badly! - said the princess. - I hardly got a wink of sleep all night. What on Earth was there in the bed! I have slept on something so hard that all my body is covered with bruises. It was horrible.	“¡He dormido muy mal!” -dijo la princesa-. “Apenas si he pegado ojo en toda la noche. ¡Que demonios habría en la cama! He dormido sobre algo tan duro que tengo todo el cuerpo lleno de magulladuras. ¡Ha sido horrible!”
That is how they knew that she was a real princess, because she had noticed the pea through twenty mattresses and twenty quilts. only a real princess could have been so sensitive.	Así supieron que era una princesa de verdad, porque había notado el guisante a través de veinte colchones y de veinte edredones. Sólo una auténtica princesa podía haber sido tan sensible.
The prince took her for his wife, becuase now he could be certain that he had married a real princess, and the pea became part of the crown jewels, where it still can be seen, if nobody has stolen it.	El príncipe la tomó por esposa, porque ahora podía estar seguro de que se casaba con una princesa auténtica, y el guisante entró a formar parte de las joyas de la corona, donde todavía puede verse, si no lo ha robado nadie.
They both lived happily for the rest of their lives.	Ambos vivieron felizmente el resto de sus vidas.
